Mahil Thari
Care Instructions
Your Mahil Thari handloom pieces are crafted with care and meant to last. A little attention in washing and storage goes a long way in preserving their beauty, texture, and colour.
Washing
- Handwash recommended: Gently wash in cold water using a mild detergent. Avoid scrubbing or twisting the fabric.
- Machine wash: Use a delicate cycle with cold water. Place the garment inside a mesh laundry bag for extra protection.
- Avoid harsh detergents, bleach, and fabric softeners — they can weaken the handloom fibres and fade natural dyes.
Drying
- Dry in shade, away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading.
- Do not wring or twist the fabric. Gently squeeze out excess water and hang or lay flat to dry.
- Avoid using a tumble dryer — the heat can shrink and damage handloom cotton.
Ironing
- Iron on low to medium heat while the fabric is slightly damp for best results.
- Avoid ironing directly over embroidery, prints, or handwork — iron inside out or place a cotton cloth between the iron and the garment.
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct light.
- Use breathable cotton garment bags instead of plastic covers to allow airflow.
- Fold heavy garments like kurtas and overcoats rather than hanging them for long periods to maintain their shape.
- Place neem leaves or lavender sachets in your storage area to keep away moths naturally.
Stain Removal
Treat stains gently. Blot (do not rub) the stain with a clean cloth dipped in cold water. Use a mild stain remover or a drop of gentle liquid detergent. Rinse thoroughly and air dry. For stubborn stains, reach out to us for advice.
Colour Care
Natural and hand-dyed fabrics may release a little colour in the first few washes. Wash dark and light colours separately, especially for the first two to three washes. Adding a tablespoon of salt or vinegar to the wash water can help set the colour.
With the right care, your Mahil Thari piece will only get softer and more beautiful with every wear.
